  1. And when Musa prayed for drink for his people, We said: Strike the rock with your staff So there gushed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place: Eat and drink of the provisions of Allah and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief.

  2. And test the orphans until they attain puberty; then if you find in them maturity of intellect, make over to them their property, and do not consume it extravagantly and hastily, lest they attain to full age; and whoever is rich, let him abstain altogether, and whoever is poor, let him eat reasonably; then when you make over to them their property, call witnesses in their presence; and Allah is enough as a Reckoner.

  3. Allah desires that He should make light your burdens, and man is created weak.

  4. And thus did We make for every prophet an enemy, the Shaitans from among men and jinn, some of them suggesting to others varnished falsehood to deceive (them), and had your Lord pleased they would not have done it, therefore leave them and that which they forge.

  5. And on the day when He shall gather them all together: O assembly of jinn! you took away a great part of mankind. And their friends from among the men shall say: Our Lord! some of us profited by others and we have reached our appointed term which Thou didst appoint for us. He shall say: The fire is your abode, to abide in it, except as Allah is pleased; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.

  6. O assembly of jinn and men! did there not come to you messengers from among you, relating to you My communications and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours? They shall say: We bear witness against ourselves; and this world's life deceived them, and they shall bear witness against their own souls that they were unbelievers.

  7. He will say: Enter into fire among the nations that have passed away before you from among jinn and men; whenever a nation shall enter, it shall curse its sister, until when they have all come up with one another into it; the last of them shall say with regard to the foremost of them: Our Lord! these led us astray therefore give them a double chastisement of the fire. He will say: Every one shall have double but you do not know.

  8. And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves).

  9. And We divided them into twelve tribes, as nations; and We revealed to Musa when his people asked him for water: Strike the rock with your staff, so outnowed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place; and We made the clouds to give shade over them and We sent to them manna and quails: Eat of the good things We have given you. And they did not do Us any harm, but they did injustice to their own souls.

  10. And certainly We have created for hell many of the jinn and the men; they have hearts with which they do not understand, and they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear; they are as cattle, nay, they are in worse errors; these are the heedless ones.

  11. And when affliction touches a man, he calls on Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove his affliction from him, he passes on as though he had never called on Us on account of an affliction that touched him; thus that which they do is made fair-seeming to the extravagant.

  12. And if We make man taste mercy from Us, then take it off from him, most surely he is despairing, ungrateful.

  13. He said: O my son! do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they devise a plan against you; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

  14. And He gives you of all that you ask Him; and if you count Allah's favors, you will not be able to number them; most surely man is very unjust, very ungrateful.

  15. And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape.

  16. He created man from a small seed and lo! he is an open contender.

  17. And man prays for evil as he ought to pray for good, and man is ever hasty.

  18. And We have made every man's actions to cling to his neck, and We will bring forth to him on the resurrection day a book which he will find wide open:

  19. And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

  20. And when distress afflicts you in the sea, away go those whom you call on except He; but when He brings you safe to the land, you turn aside; and man is ever ungrateful.

  21. (Remember) the day when We will call every people with their Imam; then whoever is given his book in his right hand, these shall read their book; and they shall not be dealt with a whit unjustly.

  22. And when We bestow favor on man, he turns aside and behaves proudly, and when evil afflicts him, he is despairing.

  23. Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others.

  24. Say: If you control the treasures of the mercy of my Lord, then you would withhold (them) from fear of spending, and man is niggardly.

  25. And certainly We have explained in this Quran every kind of example, and man is most of all given to contention.

  26. So eat and drink and refresh the eye. Then if you see any mortal, say: Surely I have vowed a fast to the Beneficent Allah, so I shall not speak to any man today.

  27. And says man: What! when I am dead shall I truly be brought forth alive?

  28. Does not man remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?

  29. When he saw fire, he said to his family: Stop, for surely I see a fire, haply I may bring to you therefrom a live coal or find a guidance at the fire.

  30. Man is created of haste; now will I show to you My signs, therefore do not ask Me to hasten (them) on.

  31. And He it is Who has brought you to life, then He will cause you to die, then bring you to life (again); most surely man is ungrateful.

  32. And certainly We created man of an extract of clay,

  33. O you who believe! Do not enter houses other than your own houses until you have asked permission and saluted their inmates; this is better for you, that you may be mindful.

  34. Certainly he led me astray from the reminder after it had come to me; and the Shaitan fails to aid man.

  35. That We may give life thereby to a dead land and give it for drink, out of what We have created, to cattle and many people.

  36. When Musa said to his family: Surely I see fire; I will bring to you from it some news, or I will bring to you therefrom a burning firebrand so that you may warm yourselves.

  37. And his hosts of the jinn and the men and the birds were gathered to him, and they were formed into groups.

  38. But the answer of his people was no other except that they ~s said: Turn out Lut's followers from your town; surely they are a people who would keep pure!

  39. So when Musa had fulfilled the term, and he journeyed with his family, he perceived on this side of the mountain a fire. He said to his family: Wait, I have seen a fire, maybe I will bring to you from it some news or a brand of fire, so that you may warm yourselves.

  40. And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did.

  41. And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming.

  42. Who made good everything that He has created, and He began the creation of man from dust.

  43. O you who believe! do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, not waiting for its cooking being finished-- but when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken the food, then disperse-- not seeking to listen to talk; surely this gives the Prophet trouble, but he forbears from you, and Allah does not forbear from the truth And when you ask of them any goods, ask of them from behind a curtain; this is purer for your hearts and (for) their hearts; and it does not behove you that you should give trouble to the Messenger of Allah, nor that you should marry his wives after him ever; surely this is grievous in the sight of Allah.

  44. Surely We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to be unfaithful to it and feared from it, and man has turned unfaithful to it; surely he is unjust, ignorant;

  45. Does not man see that We have created him from the small seed? Then lo! he is an open disputant.

  46. And when distress afflicts a man he calls upon his Lord turning to Him frequently; then when He makes him possess a favor from Him, he forgets that for which he called upon Him before, and sets up rivals to Allah that he may cause (men) to stray off from His path. Say: Enjoy yourself in your ungratefulness a little, surely you are of the inmates of the fire.

  47. So when harm afflicts a man he calls upon Us; then, when We give him a favor from Us, he says: I have been given it only by means of knowledge. Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know.

  48. And We have appointed for them comrades so they have made fair-seeming to them what is before them and what is behind them, and the word proved true against them-- among the nations of the jinn and the men that have passed away before them-- that they shall surely be losers.

  49. And those who disbelieve will say: Our Lord! show us those who led us astray from among the jinn and the men that we may trample them under our feet so that they may be of the lowest.

  50. Man is never tired of praying for good, and if evil touch him, then he is despairing, hopeless.

  51. And when We show favor to man, he turns aside and withdraws himself; and when evil touches him, he makes lengthy supplications.

  52. But if they turn aside, We have not sent you as a watcher over them; on you is only to deliver (the message); and surely when We make man taste mercy from Us, he rejoices thereat; and if an evil afflicts them on account of what their hands have already done, then-surely man is ungrateful.

  53. And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful.

  54. And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! grant me that I may give thanks for Thy favor which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good which pleases Thee and do good to me in respect of my offspring; surely I turn to Thee, and surely I am of those who submit.

  55. These are they against whom the word has proved true among nations of the jinn and the men that have already passed away before them; surely they are losers.

  56. And certainly We created man, and We know what his mind suggests to him, and We are nearer to him than his life-vein.

  57. And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me.

  58. Or shall man have what he wishes?

  59. And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for-

  60. He created man,

  61. He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels,

  62. O assembly of the jinn and the men! If you are able to pass through the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass through; you cannot pass through but with authority.

  63. So on that day neither man nor jinni shall be asked about his sin.

  64. In them shall be those who restrained their eyes; before them neither man nor jinni shall have touched them.

  65. Man has not touched them before them nor jinni.

  66. Like the Shaitan when he says to man: Disbelieve, but when he disbelieves, he says: I am surely clear of you; surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

  67. Surely man is created of a hasty temperament

  68. And that we thought that men and jinn did not utter a lie against Allah:

  69. And that persons from among men used to seek refuge with persons from among jinn, so they increased them in wrongdoing:

  70. Does man think that We shall not gather his bones?

  71. Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him.

  72. Man shall say on that day: Whither to fly to?

  73. Man shall on that day be informed of what he sent before and (what he) put off.

  74. Nay! man is evidence against himself,

  75. Does man think that he is to be left to wander without an aim?

  76. There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning.

  77. Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing.

  78. The day on which man shall recollect what he strove after,

  79. Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he!

  80. Then let man look to his food,

  81. O man ! what has beguiled you from your Lord, the Gracious one,

  82. O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him.

  83. So let man consider of what he is created:

  84. And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me.

  85. And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him?

  86. Certainly We have created man to be in distress.

  87. Certainly We created man in the best make.

  88. He created man from a clot.

  89. Taught man what he knew not.

  90. Nay! man is most surely inordinate,

  91. And man says: What has befallen her?

  92. Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
