  1. And when Musa prayed for drink for his people, We said: Strike the rock with your staff So there gushed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place: Eat and drink of the provisions of Allah and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief.

  2. Allah desires that He should make light your burdens, and man is created weak.

  3. And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves).

  4. And We divided them into twelve tribes, as nations; and We revealed to Musa when his people asked him for water: Strike the rock with your staff, so outnowed from it twelve springs; each tribe knew its drinking place; and We made the clouds to give shade over them and We sent to them manna and quails: Eat of the good things We have given you. And they did not do Us any harm, but they did injustice to their own souls.

  5. And when affliction touches a man, he calls on Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove his affliction from him, he passes on as though he had never called on Us on account of an affliction that touched him; thus that which they do is made fair-seeming to the extravagant.

  6. And if We make man taste mercy from Us, then take it off from him, most surely he is despairing, ungrateful.

  7. He said: O my son! do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they devise a plan against you; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

  8. And He gives you of all that you ask Him; and if you count Allah's favors, you will not be able to number them; most surely man is very unjust, very ungrateful.

  9. And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape.

  10. He created man from a small seed and lo! he is an open contender.

  11. And man prays for evil as he ought to pray for good, and man is ever hasty.

  12. And We have made every man's actions to cling to his neck, and We will bring forth to him on the resurrection day a book which he will find wide open:

  13. And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

  14. And when distress afflicts you in the sea, away go those whom you call on except He; but when He brings you safe to the land, you turn aside; and man is ever ungrateful.

  15. (Remember) the day when We will call every people with their Imam; then whoever is given his book in his right hand, these shall read their book; and they shall not be dealt with a whit unjustly.

  16. And when We bestow favor on man, he turns aside and behaves proudly, and when evil afflicts him, he is despairing.

  17. Say: If you control the treasures of the mercy of my Lord, then you would withhold (them) from fear of spending, and man is niggardly.

  18. And certainly We have explained in this Quran every kind of example, and man is most of all given to contention.

  19. And says man: What! when I am dead shall I truly be brought forth alive?

  20. Does not man remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?

  21. Man is created of haste; now will I show to you My signs, therefore do not ask Me to hasten (them) on.

  22. And He it is Who has brought you to life, then He will cause you to die, then bring you to life (again); most surely man is ungrateful.

  23. And certainly We created man of an extract of clay,

  24. Certainly he led me astray from the reminder after it had come to me; and the Shaitan fails to aid man.

  25. That We may give life thereby to a dead land and give it for drink, out of what We have created, to cattle and many people.

  26. But the answer of his people was no other except that they ~s said: Turn out Lut's followers from your town; surely they are a people who would keep pure!

  27. And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did.

  28. And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming.

  29. Who made good everything that He has created, and He began the creation of man from dust.

  30. Surely We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to be unfaithful to it and feared from it, and man has turned unfaithful to it; surely he is unjust, ignorant;

  31. Does not man see that We have created him from the small seed? Then lo! he is an open disputant.

  32. And when distress afflicts a man he calls upon his Lord turning to Him frequently; then when He makes him possess a favor from Him, he forgets that for which he called upon Him before, and sets up rivals to Allah that he may cause (men) to stray off from His path. Say: Enjoy yourself in your ungratefulness a little, surely you are of the inmates of the fire.

  33. So when harm afflicts a man he calls upon Us; then, when We give him a favor from Us, he says: I have been given it only by means of knowledge. Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know.

  34. Man is never tired of praying for good, and if evil touch him, then he is despairing, hopeless.

  35. And when We show favor to man, he turns aside and withdraws himself; and when evil touches him, he makes lengthy supplications.

  36. But if they turn aside, We have not sent you as a watcher over them; on you is only to deliver (the message); and surely when We make man taste mercy from Us, he rejoices thereat; and if an evil afflicts them on account of what their hands have already done, then-surely man is ungrateful.

  37. And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful.

  38. And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! grant me that I may give thanks for Thy favor which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good which pleases Thee and do good to me in respect of my offspring; surely I turn to Thee, and surely I am of those who submit.

  39. And certainly We created man, and We know what his mind suggests to him, and We are nearer to him than his life-vein.

  40. Or shall man have what he wishes?

  41. And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for-

  42. He created man,

  43. He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels,

  44. Like the Shaitan when he says to man: Disbelieve, but when he disbelieves, he says: I am surely clear of you; surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

  45. Surely man is created of a hasty temperament

  46. Does man think that We shall not gather his bones?

  47. Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him.

  48. Man shall say on that day: Whither to fly to?

  49. Man shall on that day be informed of what he sent before and (what he) put off.

  50. Nay! man is evidence against himself,

  51. Does man think that he is to be left to wander without an aim?

  52. There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning.

  53. Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing.

  54. The day on which man shall recollect what he strove after,

  55. Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he!

  56. Then let man look to his food,

  57. O man ! what has beguiled you from your Lord, the Gracious one,

  58. O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him.

  59. So let man consider of what he is created:

  60. And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me.

  61. And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him?

  62. Certainly We have created man to be in distress.

  63. Certainly We created man in the best make.

  64. He created man from a clot.

  65. Taught man what he knew not.

  66. Nay! man is most surely inordinate,

  67. And man says: What has befallen her?

  68. Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.

  69. Most surely man is in loss,
