  1. Fighting is enjoined on you, and h is an object of dislike to you; and it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is evil for you, and Allah knows, while you do not know.

  2. And let not those deem, who are niggardly in giving away that which Allah has granted them out of His grace, that it is good for them; nay, it is worse for them; they shall have that whereof they were niggardly made to cleave to their necks on the resurrection day; and Allah's is the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is aware of what you do.

  3. Say: Shall I inform you of (him who is) worse than this in retribution from Allah? (Worse is he) whom Allah has cursed and brought His wrath upon, and of whom He made apes and swine, and he who served the Shaitan; these are worse in place and more erring from the straight path.

  4. Surely the vilest of animals, in Allah's sight, are the deaf, the dumb, who do not understand.

  5. Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve, then they would not believe.

  6. And if Allah should hasten the evil to men as they desire the hastening on of good, their doom should certainly have been decreed for them; but We leave those alone who hope not for Our meeting in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on.

  7. They said: If he steal, a brother of his did indeed steal before; but Yusuf kept it secret in his heart and did not disclose it to them. He said: You are in an evil condition and Allah knows best what you state.

  8. And man prays for evil as he ought to pray for good, and man is ever hasty.

  9. And when We bestow favor on man, he turns aside and behaves proudly, and when evil afflicts him, he is despairing.

  10. Say: As for him who remains in error, the Beneficent Allah will surely prolong his length of days, until they see what they were threatened with, either the punishment or the hour; then they shall know who is in more evil plight and weaker in forces

  11. Every soul must taste of death and We try you by evil and good by way of probation; and to Us you shall be brought back.

  12. And when Our clear communications are recited to them you will find denial on the faces of those who disbelieve; they almost spring upon those who recite to them Our communications. Say: Shall I inform you of what is worse than this? The fire; Allah has promised it to those who disbelieve; and how evil the resort!

  13. Surely they who concocted the lie are a party from among you. Do not regard it an evil to you; nay, it is good for you. Every man of them shall have what he has earned of sin; and (as for) him who took upon himself the main part thereof, he shall have a grievous chastisement.

  14. (As for) those who shall be gathered upon their faces to hell, they are in a worse plight and straying farther away from the path.

  15. This (shall be so); and most surely there is an evil resort for the inordinate ones;

  16. And they shall say: What is the matter with us that we do not see men whom we used to count among the vicious?

  17. Man is never tired of praying for good, and if evil touch him, then he is despairing, hopeless.

  18. And when We show favor to man, he turns aside and withdraws himself; and when evil touches him, he makes lengthy supplications.

  19. Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him

  20. And that we know not whether evil is meant for those who are on earth or whether their Lord means to bring them good:

  21. They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide.

  22. Therefore Allah win guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness;

  23. Surely it sends up sparks like palaces,

  24. Surely those who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of men.

  25. And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it.

  26. From the evil of what He has created,

  27. And from the evil of the utterly dark night when it comes,

  28. And from the evil of those who blow on knots,

  29. And from the evil of the envious when he envies

  30. From the evil of the whisperings of the slinking (Shaitan),
