  1. And who is more unjust than he who prevents (men) from the masjids of Allah, that His name should be remembered in them, and strives to ruin them? (As for) these, it was not proper for them that they should have entered them except in fear; they shall meet with disgrace in this world, and they shall have great chastisement in the hereafter.

  2. And when he turn,s back, he runs along in the land that he may cause mischief in it and destroy the tilth and the stock, and Allah does not love mischief-making.

  3. And when Ibrahim said: My Lord! show me how Thou givest life to the dead, He said: What! and do you not believe? He said: Yes, but that my heart may be at ease. He said: Then take four of the birds, then train them to follow you, then place on every mountain a part of them, then call them, they will come to you flying; and know that Allah is Mighty, Wise.

  4. The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,

  5. And the Jews say: The hand of Allah is tied up! Their hands shall be shackled and they shall be cursed for what they say. Nay, both His hands are spread out, He expends as He pleases; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord will certainly make many of them increase in inordinacy and unbelief; and We have put enmity and hatred among them till the day of resurrection; whenever they kindle a fire for war Allah puts it out, and they strive to make mischief in the land; and Allah does not love the mischief-makers.

  6. And whoever desires the hereafter and strives for it as he ought to strive and he is a believer; (as for) these, their striving shall surely be accepted.

  7. (These are) they whose labor is lost in this world's life and they think that they are well versed in skill of the work of hands.

  8. Surely the hour is coming-- I am about to make it manifest-- so that every soul may be rewarded as it strives:

  9. So he cast it down; and lo! it was a serpent running.

  10. He said: Nay! cast down. then lo! their cords and their rods-- it was imaged to him on account of their magic as if they were running.

  11. Therefore whoever shall do of good deeds and he is a believer, there shall be no denying of his exertion, and surely We will write (It) down for him.

  12. And (as for) those who strive to oppose Our communications, they shall be the inmates of the flaming fire.

  13. And a man came running from the remotest part of the city. He said: O Musa! surely the chiefs are consulting together to slay you, therefore depart (at once); surely I am of those who wish well to you.

  14. And (as for) those who strive hard in opposing Our communications, these it is for whom is a painful chastisement of an evil kind.

  15. And (as for) those who strive in opposing Our communications, they shall be caused to be brought to the chastisement.

  16. And from the remote part of the city there came a man running, he said: O my people! follow the messengers;

  17. And when he attained to working with him, he said: O my son! surely I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what you see. He said: O my father! do what you are commanded; if Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones.

  18. And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for-

  19. And that his striving shall soon be seen-

  20. On that day you will see the faithful men and the faithful women-- their light running before them and on their right hand-- good news for you today: gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein, that is the grand achievement.

  21. O you who believe! when the call is made for prayer on Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trading; that is better for you, if you know.

  22. O you who believe! turn to Allah a sincere turning; maybe your Lord will remove from you your evil and cause you to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day on which Allah will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him; their light shall run on before them and on their right hands; they shall say: Our Lord! make perfect for us our light, and grant us protection, surely Thou hast power over all things.

  23. Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed.

  24. Then he went back hastily.

  25. The day on which man shall recollect what he strove after,

  26. And as to him who comes to you striving hard,

  27. Well-pleased because of their striving,

  28. Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends).
