  1. He said: My Lord! when shall there be a son (born) to me, and old age has already come upon me, and my wife is barren? He said: even thus does Allah what He pleases.

  2. And there came travellers and they sent their water-drawer and he let down his bucket. He said: O good news! this is a youth; and they concealed him as an article of merchandise, and Allah knew what they did.

  3. They said: Be not afraid, surely we give you the good news of a boy, possessing knowledge.

  4. So they went on until, when they met a boy, he slew him. (Musa) said: Have you slain an innocent person otherwise than for manslaughter? Certainly you have done an evil thing.

  5. And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should make disobedience and ingratitude to come upon them:

  6. And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was a righteous man; so your Lord desired that they should attain their maturity and take out their treasure, a mercy from your Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the significance of that with which you could not have patience.

  7. O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal.

  8. He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age?

  9. He said: I am only a messenger of your Lord: That I will give you a pure boy.

  10. She said: When shall I have a boy and no mortal has yet touched me, nor have I been unchaste?

  11. So We gave him the good news of a boy, possessing forbearance.

  12. So he conceived in his mind a fear on account of them. They said: Fear not. And they gave him the good news of a boy possessing knowledge.

  13. And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls.
