  1. And I am commanded that I shall be the first of those who submit.

  2. What! is he whose heart Allah has opened for Islam so that he is in a light from his Lord (like the hard-hearted)? Nay, woe to those whose hearts are hard against the remembrance of Allah; those are in clear error.

  3. Allah sets forth an example: There is a slave in whom are (several) partners differing with one another, and there is another slave wholly owned by one man. Are the two alike in condition? (All) praise is due to Allah. Nay! most of them do not know.

  4. And return to your Lord time after time and submit to Him before there comes to you the punishment, then you shall not be helped.

  5. And those who are careful of (their duty to) their Lord shall be conveyed to the garden in companies; until when they come to it, and its doors shall be opened, and the keepers of it shall say to them: Peace be on you, you shall be happy; therefore enter it to abide.

  6. Say: I am forbidden to serve those whom you call upon besides Allah when clear arguments have come to me from my Lord, and I am commanded that I should submit to the Lord of the worlds.

  7. And who speaks better than he who calls to Allah while he himself does good, and says: I am surely of those who submit?

  8. Those who believed in Our communications and were submissive:

  9. So turn away from them and say, Peace, for they shall soon come to know.

  10. And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! grant me that I may give thanks for Thy favor which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good which pleases Thee and do good to me in respect of my offspring; surely I turn to Thee, and surely I am of those who submit.

  11. And be not slack so as to cry for peace and you have the upper hand, and Allah is with you, and He will not bring your deeds to naught.

  12. Say to those of the dwellers of the desert who were left behind: You shall soon be invited (to fight) against a people possessing mighty prowess; you will fight against them until they submit; then if you obey, Allah will grant you a good reward; and if you turn back as you turned back before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.

  13. The dwellers of the desert say: We believe. Say: You do not believe but say, We submit; and faith has not yet entered into your hearts; and if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish aught of your deeds; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

  14. They think that they lay you under an obligation by becoming Muslims. Say: Lay me not under obligation by your Islam: rather Allah lays you under an obligation by guiding you to the faith if you are truthful.

  15. Enter it in peace, that is the day of abiding.

  16. When they entered upon him, they said: Peace. Peace, said he, a strange people.

  17. But We did not find therein save a (single) house of those who submitted (the Muslims).

  18. Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority.

  19. Except the word peace, peace.

  20. Then peace to you from those on the right hand.

  21. He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).

  22. And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah and he is invited to Islam, and Allah does not guide the unjust people.

  23. Maybe, his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive, faithful, obedient, penitent, adorers, fasters, widows and virgins.

  24. What! shall We then make (that is, treat) those who submit as the guilty?

  25. Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them; and they were called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.

  26. And that some of us are those who submit, and some of us are the deviators; so whoever submits, these aim at the right way:

  27. Peace! it is till the break of the morning.
