صَاعِقَة

Appears 7 times in the Quran. (Root: صعق)
  1. Or like abundant rain from the cloud in which is utter darkness and thunder and lightning; they put their fingers into their ears because of the thunder peal, for fear of death, and Allah encompasses the unbelievers.

  2. And when you said: O Musa! we will not believe in you until we see Allah manifestly, so the punishment overtook you while you looked on.

  3. The followers of the Book ask you to bring down to them a book from heaven; so indeed they demanded of Musa a greater thing than that, for they said: Show us Allah manifestly; so the lightning overtook them on account of their injustice. Then they took the calf (for a god), after clear signs had come to them, but We pardoned this; and We gave to Musa clear authority.

  4. And the thunder declares His glory with His praise, and the angels too for awe of Him; and He sends the thunderbolts and smites with them whom He pleases, yet they dispute concerning Allah, and He is mighty in prowess.

  5. But if they turn aside, then say: I have warned you of a scourge like the scourge of Ad and Samood.

  6. And as to Samood, We showed them the right way, but they chose error above guidance, so there overtook them the scourge of an abasing chastisement for what they earned.

  7. But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling overtook them while they saw.
