ٱتَّخَذَ

Appears 20 times in the Quran. (Root: اخذ)
  1. And they say: Allah has taken to himself a son. Glory be to Him; rather, whatever is in the heavens and the earth is His; all are obedient to Him.

  2. And who has a better religion than he who submits himself entirely to Allah? And he is the doer of good (to others) and follows the faith of Ibrahim, the upright one, and Allah took Ibrahim as a friend.

  3. And Musa's people made of their ornaments a calf after him, a (mere) body, which gave a mooing sound. What! could they not see that it did not speak to them nor guide them m the way? They took it (for worship) and they were unjust.

  4. They say: Allah has taken a son (to Himself)! Glory be to Him: He is the Self-sufficient: His is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; you have no authority for this; do you say against Allah what you do not know?

  5. What! has then your Lord preferred to give you sons, and (for Himself) taken daughters from among the angels? Most surely you utter a grievous saying.

  6. And warn those who say: Allah has taken a son.

  7. So when they had reached the junction of the two (rivers) they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the sea, going away.

  8. He said: Did you see when we took refuge on the rock then I forgot the fish, and nothing made me forget to speak of it but the Shaitan, and it took its way into the river; what a wonder!

  9. Has he gained knowledge of the unseen, or made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah?

  10. They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah.

  11. And they say: The Beneficent Allah has taken (to Himself) a son.

  12. And they say: The Beneficent Allah has taken to Himself a ! son. Glory be to Him. Nay! they are honored servants

  13. Never did Allah take to Himself a son, and never was there with him any (other) god-- in that case would each god have certainly taken away what he created, and some of them would certainly have overpowered others; glory be to Allah above what they describe!

  14. Have you seen him who takes his low desires for his god? Will you then be a protector over him?

  15. What! has He taken daughters to Himself of what He Himself creates and chosen you to have sons?

  16. Have you then considered him who takes his low desire for his god, and Allah has made him err having knowledge and has set a seal upon his ear and his heart and put a covering upon his eye. Who can then guide him after Allah? Will you not then be mindful?

  17. And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son:

  18. Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord.

  19. Surely this is a reminder, so whoever pleases takes to his Lord a way.

  20. That is the sure day, so whoever desires may take refuge with his Lord.
