حَيّ

Appears 20 times in the Quran. (Root: حيي)
  1. And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive.

  2. Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His; who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great.

  3. Allah, (there is) no god but He, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all things subsist

  4. Thou makest the night to pass into the day and Thou makest the day to pass into the night, and Thou bringest forth the living from the dead and Thou bringest forth the dead from the living, and Thou givest sustenance to whom Thou pleasest without measure.

  5. And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord;

  6. Surely Allah causes the grain and the stone to germinate; He brings forth the living from the dead and He is the bringer forth of the dead from the living; that is Allah! how are you then turned away.

  7. Say: Who gives you sustenance from the heaven and the earth? Or Who controls the hearing and the sight? And Who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living? And Who regulates the affairs? Then they will say: Allah. Say then: Will you not then guard (against evil)?

  8. Dead (are they), not living, and they know not when they shall be raised.

  9. And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life

  10. And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and He has enjoined on me prayer and poor-rate so long as I live;

  11. And peace on me on the day I was born, and on the day I die, and on the day I am raised to life.

  12. And says man: What! when I am dead shall I truly be brought forth alive?

  13. And the faces shall be humbled before the Living, the Self-subsistent Allah, and he who bears iniquity is indeed a failure.

  14. Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were closed up, but We have opened them; and We have made of water everything living, will they not then believe?

  15. And rely on the Ever-living Who dies not, and celebrate His praise; and Sufficient is He as being aware of the faults of His servants,

  16. He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and gives life to the earth after its death, and thus shall you be brought forth.

  17. Neither are the living and the dead alike. Surely Allah makes whom He pleases hear, and you cannot make those hear who are m the graves.

  18. That it may warn him who would have life, and (that) the word may prove true against the unbelievers.

  19. He is the Living, there is no god but He, therefore call on Him, being sincere to Him in obedience; (all) praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
