يَسْمَعُونَ

Appears 19 times in the Quran. (Root: سمع)
  1. Do you then hope that they would believe in you, and a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Allah, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know (this).

  2. Only those accept who listen; and (as to) the dead, Allah will raise them, then to Him they shall be returned.

  3. Is it not clear to those who inherit the earth after its (former) residents that if We please We would afflict them on account of their faults and set a seal on their hearts so they would not hear.

  4. And certainly We have created for hell many of the jinn and the men; they have hearts with which they do not understand, and they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear; they are as cattle, nay, they are in worse errors; these are the heedless ones.

  5. Have they feet with which they walk, or have they hands with which they hold, or have they eyes with which they see, or have they ears with which they hear? Say: Call your associates, then make a struggle (to prevail) against me and give me no respite.

  6. And be not like those who said, We hear, and they did not obey.

  7. He it is Who made for you the night that you might rest in it, and the day giving light; most surely there are signs in it for a people who would hear.

  8. And Allah has sent down water from the cloud and therewith given life to the earth after its death; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who would listen.

  9. They shall not hear therein any vain discourse, but only: Peace, and they shall have their sustenance therein morning and evening.

  10. For them therein shall be groaning and therein they shall not hear.

  11. They will not hear its faintest sound, and they shall abide in that which their souls long for.

  12. Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts.

  13. Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path.

  14. And one of His signs is your sleeping and your seeking of His grace by night and (by) day; most surely there are signs in this for a people who would hear.

  15. Does it not point out to them the right way, how many of the generations, in whose abodes they go about, did We destroy before them? Most surely there are signs in this; will they not then hear?

  16. A herald of good news and a warner, but most of them turn aside so they hear not.

  17. The day when they shall hear the cry in truth; that is the day of coming forth.

  18. They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse,

  19. They shall not hear therein any vain words nor lying.
